Terms & Conditions
Use of the Magpies News website, app and news services.
1. About these terms
These Terms & Conditions govern access to https://magpies.in and any official Magpies News app or related digital service made available by us (together, the "Service"). "Magpies News", "we", "our" and "us" mean the news brand operated by the legal entity identified in the operator and postal address section. "You" means a reader, account holder, contributor or other user of the Service.
By using the Service after these terms take effect, you agree to them. If you do not agree, discontinue use. Specific paid services, advertising orders and contributor engagements may carry additional terms disclosed before you accept them. Mandatory legal rights prevail over any conflicting provision.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 and legally competent to enter a paid transaction, open an independent contributor account or enter another contract with us. If you act for an organisation, you must be authorised to bind it. Younger readers may view suitable public news with a parent or guardian's guidance, subject to our Privacy Policy and any age controls.
Where registration is offered, provide accurate information, protect your sign-in credentials and notify us promptly of suspected misuse. Do not share access in a way that misleads others or bypasses paid access. You are responsible for activity you authorise; you are not automatically liable for a security failure attributable to us.
3. News, summaries and editorial standards
The Service may publish reporting, short summaries, translations, commentary, licensed material and attributed links. A summary may omit detail contained in the original report. Check dates and linked sources, particularly for developing stories, public notices, results, prices and schedules.
We seek accuracy and will assess credible correction requests. Opinions are identified as such where appropriate. News does not replace personalised legal, medical, financial or other professional advice. Editorial selection or summarisation by Magpies News remains subject to our own responsibilities; attributing a source does not automatically remove those responsibilities.
4. Permitted use and intellectual property
You may read the Service, use its sharing tools and share ordinary links with appropriate attribution. Content, layouts, photographs, videos, software and brand assets belong to Magpies News or their respective rights holders. Third-party credits must remain intact.
Unless permission or a legal exception allows it, do not republish complete stories, commercially exploit our content, remove watermarks, bypass access controls or systematically collect content for resale or model training. Nothing here limits fair dealing or another right granted by applicable law.
Contributions and responsible use
5. Material you submit
If we enable submissions, comments, photos or videos, submit only material you are entitled to provide. Identify the source, disclose conflicts of interest, distinguish observation from allegation, and disclose material manipulation or AI generation. Obtain permissions needed for private locations, identifiable people, recordings, music and other protected material. Do not expose children, victims or confidential sources to avoidable harm.
You retain ownership of your original work. By intentionally submitting material for publication, you give Magpies News a non-exclusive licence to review, edit, translate, reproduce and distribute it through our news services and related promotion of that coverage, for as long as reasonably needed for those purposes. We may permit service providers to handle it only for those purposes. We will respect attribution and other non-waivable rights.
Submission does not guarantee publication, payment, employment or press credentials. Fees and commissioned rights require a separate agreement. You may request withdrawal; we will assess the request, legal duties, editorial records and copies already lawfully distributed. A confidential tip is not automatically permission to publish the source's identity.
6. Prohibited conduct
Do not use the Service to:
- Threaten, harass, exploit children, expose private information without lawful justification, or incite violence or unlawful discrimination.
- Submit fabricated evidence, materially deceptive media, impersonation, unlawful defamatory allegations or undisclosed paid promotion presented as independent reporting.
- Infringe copyright, misuse a person's likeness, publish confidential material unlawfully, or promote scams or prohibited goods and services.
- Introduce malware, attack systems, obtain unauthorised access, harvest other users' data, manipulate traffic or evade moderation restrictions.
- Publish material prohibited by applicable law, including unlawful sexual content, money laundering promotions or unlawful gambling advertisements.
Legitimate criticism, public-interest reporting and lawful opinion are not prohibited merely because they are uncomfortable or unfavourable.
7. AI and altered media
AI may assist a newsroom workflow where enabled, but generated output can contain errors. Material generated or altered to depict a real person or event must not be represented as authentic evidence. Appropriate labels and provenance information must be retained. Automated tools do not replace editorial responsibility for material that we choose to publish.
8. Moderation and review
We may review, correct, label, restrict or remove content, and limit an account, for a policy breach, security risk or legal requirement. Urgent protective action may precede a response from the affected user. Where lawful and practicable, we will explain the action and offer review through our grievance channel. Reporting content does not guarantee removal; the response depends on evidence, rights and applicable law.
Commercial features and responsibility
9. Advertising and external services
Advertisements and sponsored material should be identifiable as paid content. Advertising does not buy editorial approval or a favourable news outcome. Unless an offer expressly states otherwise, a purchase from an advertiser is a transaction with that advertiser, whose sales and privacy terms apply. This does not exclude duties that the law places on Magpies News.
External links, embeds and app-store services may have their own terms. We do not control their continued availability. Report a suspected scam or harmful advertisement through the grievance channel so that we can review its placement on our Service.
10. Paid access and other charges
Paid subscriptions, premium features or other purchases apply only if they are actually offered and clearly described at checkout. Price, taxes, duration, renewal conditions and cancellation instructions must be shown before payment. No free trial, ad-free plan or recurring charge is created by these terms alone.
Our Payment Policy governs payment handling and refunds. The Advertisement Terms & Conditions also apply to advertising purchases. Cancelling a renewal and requesting a refund are different actions; the relevant policy explains each.
11. Privacy and communications
Our Privacy Policy explains personal information, optional permissions, service providers and available choices. Accepting these terms is not blanket consent to unrelated marketing, tracking or another optional use of personal data. Service notices may be necessary to administer an account or transaction; promotional messages require the appropriate permission and an available opt-out.
12. Availability and changes to the Service
Maintenance, connectivity problems, security events and other circumstances can interrupt access. We do not promise uninterrupted access or that every story will remain available indefinitely. We will take reasonable steps to address faults. If a paid service is materially unavailable or discontinued, the Payment Policy and applicable consumer rights govern the remedy.
13. Responsibility and limits
Each party is responsible for losses caused by its own breach or wrongful conduct to the extent the law provides. To the extent legally permitted, we exclude liability for remote or unforeseeable loss and indirect business loss arising from ordinary use of free news services. This clause does not exclude liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, or any duty or remedy that cannot lawfully be limited, including applicable consumer and privacy rights.
A business user or contributor may be required to reimburse reasonable third-party claim costs caused by its proven unlawful submission or breach of rights warranties, to the extent permitted by law. This does not cover loss caused by Magpies News's own fault. We will provide reasonable notice of a claim and an opportunity to participate in its defence; no settlement may impose an admission or payment on you without a proper basis.
14. Suspension and closure
You may stop using the Service and request account closure. We may suspend or terminate access for a material breach, serious risk or legal direction, acting proportionately. Where practical, we will provide notice and a chance to correct a remediable breach. Closure does not remove outstanding lawful payment obligations, refund rights, complaint rights or required record retention.
Complaints, governing terms and contact
15. Corrections, copyright and complaints
To report an error or infringement, identify the exact story, advertisement or account, include its link or reference and explain the concern with available supporting evidence. If you represent someone else, provide reasonable evidence of authority where necessary. Do not send passwords, OTPs or unnecessary identity documents.
The Grievance Redressal Policy explains submission, urgent handling, response periods and escalation. Complaints about our editorial content and complaints about any hosted user content may follow different legal routes. Ordinary correspondence must not delay an urgent safety report or a binding legal deadline.
16. Governing law and dispute resolution
These terms are governed by Indian law. Parties should first try to resolve a dispute through the relevant contact or grievance process. Subject to mandatory legal rights and the jurisdiction of competent consumer commissions and other authorities, disputes may be brought before the competent courts having territorial jurisdiction over Piravom, Kerala, India. This clause does not compel arbitration or remove a lawful right to approach another competent forum.
17. Updates
We may revise these terms to reflect changes to the Service or law. The current version and effective date will be displayed on the Service. We will give reasonable notice of material changes where practicable and obtain fresh agreement where required. Revised terms apply prospectively and do not retrospectively remove an accrued refund, complaint or other statutory right.
18. General provisions
If a provision is unenforceable, the remainder continues to apply to the extent lawful. Failure to enforce a provision immediately is not a waiver. A specific written service agreement governs that service where it conflicts with a general policy, subject always to mandatory law. You may not transfer contractual obligations without our agreement; any transfer by us must preserve applicable user rights and be notified where required.
